The Revolution is TOTALLY 80’s!

“Mr. Adams, this revolution is about your petty personal grievances. Your taxes are too high. Well, sir so are mine.” John Dickinson, the sole vote against U.S. Independence. Well, I kinda think that’s what went down. I saw it in a movie once. There is an old phrase in Hollywood when describing art house films […]

The Eastwood Factor

The word consistency isn’t one you hear very often around town. Well, unless you are talking about Clint Eastwood. In a time of ankling, shingling and other snap dappery, Eastwood has maintained an office on the Warner Bros lot for the last 35 years. Even more impressive, in that time span he has managed to […]

Looking For Eric

The feel good movie of the year is directed by Ken Loach? Ken Loach is better known for his movies about historical morality and social issues. Case in point, yesterday at the Cannes film festival he denounced George Bush and Tony Blair as war criminals. This was done while walking the red carpet to his […]

“In My Sleep:” Sleeper or Snoozer?

There was a time from the late 80’s to the mid 90’s when being into indie flick meant something. It was a renaissance with folks like Spike Lee, Quentin Tarrantino, Robert Rodriguez and Doug Liman did some great work out of the grasp of the studios reach. Howl Clips.

Not sure how I feel about this. Inititally it comes off a little too self serving for the actors. I have always had a problem with actors trying to portray the beats. They tend to portray legends rather than real people.

“Wonderful World” is a portrait of one man’s actualization of his own negativity. Josh Goldin’s directorial debut really encompasses a lot of what is probably consuming the American psyche right now. The world sucks and there is very little that one man can do to change it. Or can they?

Review: The Providence Effect

If you or a friend have a kid the Beverly Hills private school system, you have noticed a disturbing trend. Kids are now playing games where everyone is a “winner.” Halloween Costumes must be made in class so the richer kids don’t have an advantage. There is a general lack of discipline and respect given […]

Interview: Dave Foley and Jameel Kahn hit THE STRIP.

The kid in the hall has befriended the new kid on the block. Jameel Kahn, a first time director out of 2nd City, was fortunate enough to score “Kids In The Hall” alumni Dave Foley for his debut, “The Strip.” The indie comedy is based around the lives for five guys making the best of […]

Taking Woodstock

When making movies about the Sixties, storytellers, in general, fall into a glamorizing pitfall  which makes the film seem unauthentic. These films often focus on the times, music and fashion completely forgetting to tell a good story.  The result ends up being a 120 minutes of
